Mud is good for the skin and the 3 million visitors who cover themselves in mud every year at the festival of Boryeong (Boryeong Mud Festival) are surely aware of the fact.
In addition to its beauty enhancing qualities, participants at this festival want to get in touch with their inner child. The proof is that an immense crowd of people from around the world gather at Daecheon Beach to enjoy this joyous regression into childhood.
Boryeong, a seaside resort about 200 km south of Seoul in Korea is known for its abundant natural resources and beautiful scenery. Daecheon Beach is one of the largest beaches in the country, perfect for taking a swim. It hosts more than 10 million tourists every year.
No-one can resist the appeal of the Boryeong Mud’s cosmetics properties, rich in nutrients and minerals. Festival goers plunge into large inflatable structures filled with mud and cover themselves in it. Visitors can discover its beneficial properties whilst having fun at the same time.
There are lots of activities that tourists can try out here; relaxing massages, mud slides for kids, mud wrestling, or swimming in a pool of mud. The more adventurous can try some military sports in the mud and those who prefer to relax can do so in the mud massage area.
For Koreans – and the increasing share of tourists coming from abroad – this is an opportunity to buy cosmetics and health-care products on site, but also to enjoy rolling in the mud.
And you, what are you doing next summer??
